ATR Continues to Grow in Canada
ATR is thrilled to disclose the signing of a significant contract with Canadaâs leading hydroelectricity provider Hydro QuĂ©bec. The agreement includes the purchase of three ATR 72-600, along with an option for additional aircraft, aiming at replacing Hydro QuĂ©becâs fleet of older generation turboprops. Deliveries are scheduled to start in September 2026. Â
With a network of 62 hydroelectric generating stations scattered throughout QuĂ©bec, Hydro QuĂ©bec needs an affordable, reliable and low-emission solution to transport its employees across the province. Through this strategic move, Hydro QuĂ©bec will operate the lowest-emission regional aircraft on the market, with a proven track record in connecting people and places reliably and responsibly in the most challenging environments. Â
Powered by state-of-the-art PW127XT engines, manufactured by Pratt & Whitney Canada, the ATR 72-600 stands out for its exceptional performance, boasting a remarkable reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to Hydro QuĂ©bec’s previous generation turboprops, as well as lower operating costs. Â
“Regional travel is a vital link between the most remote areas and the rest of the world, supporting businesses and providing convenience in the most challenging environments. Hydro QuĂ©becâs operations exemplify this reliance on regional connectivity, as they use their aircraft to transport employees across the province, connecting hydroelectric stations that deliver renewable energy not just throughout QuĂ©bec, but globally â an essential service that communities depend on. By selecting the ATR 72-600, Hydro QuĂ©bec opts for the lowest-emission regional aircraft on the market, emitting 30% less CO2 than competing turboprops and 45% less than regional jets. This significant advantage underscores their commitment to operational efficiency and environmental stewardship.â said Alexis Vidal, ATRâs Senior Vice-President Commercial. Â
ATRâs partnership with Hydro QuĂ©bec highlights the growing momentum for the ATR 72-600 in Canada, after Rise Air became the launch customer of the type in November last year. These brand new aircraft will join a fleet of over 50 ATRs already flying across the country. Â
Hydro QuĂ©becâs order is part of ATRâs undisclosed deals of 2024. Â
